The Alexander Technique
Developed over 100 years ago by Australian actor FM Alexander, the Alexander Technique pre-dates ergonomics
as a formal discipline. Alexander discovered that the way we think about movement greatly affects the quality
and ease of that movement.
The AT has an international body of practitioners who complete a three year full
time course to gain accreditation as qualified teachers in the Technique. During lessons in the Alexander Technique
you become aware of the inappropriate ways in which you hold, move and use your body, particularly your back.
By applying greater self awareness and clearer intention to everyday activities you can dramatically improve
coordination, balance and posture, and remove many causes of pain.
"Everyone is always teaching one what to do, leaving us still doing the things we shouldn't do."

The Alexander Technique places particular emphasis on addressing unconscious bad habits. Many bad habits are
developed - perhaps even evolved! - over time, as the picture below suggests.
Hunched back and poor posture are common problems in the office and elsewhere. Recent statistics indicate that
back injuries account for almost one third of all workplace injuries. Workcover NSW estimates each back injury
costs approximately AUD$19,000 and that back injuries cumulatively account for over 500,000 days off work per year,
in the State of New South Wales (Australia) alone.
At Uplifting Solutions we source a wide range of innovative furniture and fittings to make diverse work tasks more
